As an Access Services Assistant with a Black cultural competency, you will provide library services to both patrons and staff with a specific focus on assisting patrons from the Black community. Your duties will range from materials movement and performing library support duties to assisting with circulation and account management, however, your main focus will be materials management. Multnomah County Library is looking for customer service-oriented Bilingual Chinese Library Assistants to be a part of our team! We're seeking candidates who are fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
As a Bilingual Chinese Library Assistant, you will draw on your deep knowledge and connections with the Chinese community when providing excellent customer and informational service to children, families and adults. You'll be responsible for connecting internal and external patrons with the information they seek as well as delivering a variety of library services. You will assess the needs of the community as you plan, prepare and implement programs (including storytimes) and outreach for your service area. You'll work closely with your branch administrator and fellow branch staff, as well as the We Speak Your Language team in the branch and in other libraries. You will build and maintain professional relationships with patrons as you help ensure that the Library is a welcoming space for the community. Apply through Friday, June 29, 2018.

Job shadowing is a way to work side-by-side with library staff to find out how the library delivers services to our community. It is often a key part of academic programs for library studies.
